'You're Not Just Buying Tea, You're Improving Lives!'
At The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® one of our core principles is our commitment to social responsibility. Both in the U.S. and abroad, we've developed a broad range of programs that aim to give back to the workers and their communities. From preserving the environment to improving education, all of our Caring Cup Initiatives reflect our company's core values.
Two of these Caring Cup Initiatives directly benefit our tea growing communities:
The Bogawantalawa Community Center – In 2003, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® joined forces with the Bogawantalawa Tea Estate in Sri Lanka, where we buy all of our Ceylon teas, in building a community center for the estate's workers and their families. In fact, whenever you're enjoying one of our brewed cups or tea tins of English Breakfast,Vanilla Ceylon, Apricot Ceylon, Raspberry Ceylon and Bogawantalawa Estate Ceylon, you can be sure that a portion of your purchase goes to support the community center and other initiatives on the estate. We recently helped fund a library and a day care center too. We couldn't be more pleased to see how much these efforts have meant to the workers and their families!
The Aid Lanka Kids Foundation – In response to the devastating Asian tsunami in 2004, our master tea buyer-blender, David Decandia, helped launch the Aid Lanka Kids Foundation, which primarily provides care and education to the orphaned girls at the Jeevanie School for Girls. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® made an initial donation to help launch the Foundation, and continues to offer support through the sale of our exquisite Ceylon teas, which include English Breakfast,Vanilla Ceylon, Apricot Ceylon, Raspberry Ceylon and Bogawantalawa Estate Ceylon.
